The neighborhood gang went to the beach today, or at least our landlocked version of the beach... the local reservoir. The big kids (as Sweet Pea likes to refer to herself) played in the water and sand and the babies sat under the shade of our patio umbrella (that is until it tried to fly away) in their bumbo chairs and babbled at one another. We were using a patio umbrella because even though it is the middle of July no retailers are still carrying beach umbrellas. Target was even beginning to stock long sleeve shirts and pants and the beach area had been replaced with back to school items. At this rate there will be Christmas decorations out in September.
Sweet Pea, our little social butterfly, flittered from one beach blanket to the next making buddies and testing out various toys. We have been working on not saying or screaming "mine" so today as she visited new friends she told a little boy, "that's yours, THAT'S YOURS!" as she picked up his bucket and shovel.
After all of this excitement I thought that Sweet Pea would come home and take a fantastic nap. I was wrong. She finally feel asleep around 3ish after all of her bears had been put in the living room and she had been put in her crib. This will probably mean that she sleeps way to late in the day, but I'm going to let her sleep as long as she needs and hopefully, fingers and toes crossed, she will wake up in a good mood and we will not have a repeat of the behavior that happened last night. She was all toddler last night complete with tantrums, hitting, spitting and she even bit her BFF "C". It was a very sad night, but we survived. I repeated "this is just a phase" about 10,000 times and took lots of deep breaths. This morning while we were waiting for "C" to get her to go to the res. she drew him a picture to say sorry. She told me "My sad, for biting "C", Momma". She really is a sweet kid, sometimes she just forgets.
